The parking lot and bleachers were full down at the Montpelier Ball Park this past Saturday, May 11, 2024, for the kickoff of Montpelier’s baseball season. With just one minor scheduling mishap, opening day was a huge success! Volunteers worked long and hard to prepare for this season and the hard work didn’t go unnoticed.

To start the day a freewill donation meal was available for the whole community. Corn hole was set up for some entertainment, as well.

The opening day ceremony began around 12:30 p.m. The American Legion presented the colors with one of our local fire trucks in the background also displaying our nation’s flag. Ava Milholland sang the national anthem, followed by the announcement of players and coaches.

The games kicked off and the official start of the season has begun.

The fields have not seen players since the 2019 season! The park looks amazing compared to just three months prior. Hard work and dedication have gone a long way. It takes a special person to donate their time and abilities to make things happen and Montpelier has some of the best!

Along with time and sweat equity, it takes money to keep things going. A special thank you to all who donated money and purchased items from the league’s Amazon wish list. Next time you’re at the park, please notice the sponsor banners and team sponsors. Support those who support us.

All donations that were given on Saturday will be matched by a grant Mayor Brad Neff found to help with park expenses. Exciting things are happening and lots of plans for the future!
