The Montpelier Civic Center hosted their annual fish fry on Saturday night, September 28th. The fish (and chicken and tenderloin), as always, was prepared by Dan’s Fish Fry out of Huntington. The food was fabulous and plentiful! As Vice President of the Civic Center Board of Directors, I can report that we served slightly over 400 meals!

The Civic Center is a non-profit organization that relies on fundraising and grants to provide the funds needed for operations (membership fees don’t provide enough income to cover costs). It was so gratifying to have the community support us by coming on Saturday.
Terry Elliott, Claire Aulbach, and myself all donated baked goods for the dessert table but the star of the dessert table was the apple dumplings made and donated by Dan and Stacia Perry. Sharon Clouse made her famous baked beans, which are always a hit.
Everyone on the Board of Directors (Brad Neff, Tina Neff, Sharon Clouse, Kathy Casterline, Jimmy Waters, Joel Neff, and myself) spent most of the day working at various tasks. Kelly Neff volunteered her time and Tricia Stevens, the CC manager, worked endlessly on the event for the month leading up to it. Jimmy Waters hired some students from the Southern Wells FFA to help out and we even had some exchange students that volunteered. It really was a team effort that required everyone.
The Board would like to thank everyone that helped and attended, and we look forward to seeing you next year. If a year’s wait is too long, I believe one of the local churches is putting on an event using Dan’s in May, so keep an eye out. See you next time!
