Saturday marked the second opening day for Montpelier Youth Baseball in recent years. Not only was the weather beautiful, the festivities were enjoyed by many folks young and old. The day started at noon with burgers being skillfully grilled by Chad and Tony King. At around 1:45. Mayor Neff opened the ceremony with a prayer and then Joel and Kylie Neff sang the national anthem. Then all 7 teams’ players and coaches were introduced by announcer Flip Roberts.

First pitches of the season were thrown out by Ivy and Oliver Penrod. The sponsors for the teams are JR Flooring, Creek Run LLC, American Legion Post 156, Via Credit Union, Pizza King, Brewers Septic Service and Langdon Brothers Seed. We thank these businesses for stepping up and helping our kiddos.
There are 65 kids participating this year and each team has at least two volunteer coaches. The community really came together to make this season happen. The Board of Directors for Youth Baseball in Montpelier is comprised of Shaina Roberts, Tiffany Pauley (who was in charge of concessions for the day) Abby Michael, Kasey Rinker, Jesse Johnson (for whom congratulations are in order as he and his wife will have a baseball player of their own in about 4 years), and Brad and Tina Neff.
We thank you all for your commitment to our kids! Come out some Tuesday or Thursday night and check out the action. It’s hard not to smile at kids having a great time.
