Downtown businesses stayed open late once again last Friday, August 30th, for the second Main Street Friday, a new initiative created this summer to encourage folks to shop local in Montpelier. Participating businesses opened from 5 to 9 p.m. for this special event that draws local folks to the center of the city.

SWCC main street friday

Southern Wells Community Church Worship band was the featured entertainment, beginning at 6 p.m. in Tri-Kappa Park on Main Street. The Montpelier Community Pantry set up a booth offering hot dogs, chips, and drinks to visitors. We Seem To Have It All participated with a $5 bag sale. Simply Sweet & Rustic also offered a special deal for Main Street Friday Night customers with BOGO 50 percent off. Upscale Retail & More, Dillinger Antiques, and Montpelier Civic Center also participated. Other vendors such as G2 creations, crocheted goods, and more set up booths on High Street, as well.

Perhaps the star of the night was the Grand Opening of Sunkissed Brews Salon at 115 E. High Street. Formerly known as the Nutrition Café and located next to the big Indian, the business took over the building that previously housed Studio elle Tanning Salon on High Street. They expanded their business and changed the name to better encompass all that the new business will offer, including their well-known signature nutritional drinks, tanning, an assortment of salon services, and even various handcrafted goods.

To celebrate the Grand Opening of the new site, Sunkissed Brews Salon brought in Texas Tenderloin food truck, a bounce house, face painting, mini facialists, craft vendors, hair tinsel, and more. They also offered discounted beverages and tanning packages during the event, and hosted a raffle for free gift cards, tanning, and other salon services.

The warm summer evening concluded with a free movie in Gazebo Park around 8:30 p.m., sponsored by Neff Realty. What a great evening of fun for the whole family! Support your businesses – remember to shop local!
